Oculus Stock Touch Controller Overview

These are the Oculus’ input devices that are held in each hand.  Regardless of whether you are playing one or two-handed, you must use them to interact with the device.  There are far more controller grip accessory options for the Quest 2 than any other accessory type offered.  Having no shortage of options also leads to a more difficult decision making process.

Stock Touch Controllers with No Grips:

  • Made of hard plastic material which make the controllers slippery and reduces grip over time with any kind of moisture – should have had some type of silicone texture addition
  • Battery compartment kept sliding off on one controller which was highly annoying
  • Constant paranoia that I would bump them into each other or into an object while playing and damage them
  • Included wrist straps do not help create the illusion of being within a different reality (controllers can be released from hand grip causing a disruption in gameplay)

KIWI design Knuckle Grip Covers

KIWI’s Knuckle Grip Covers (Top Version) are by far my favorite grips and wish I had invested in them sooner.  They are made of texturized silicone around the body and thicker smooth silicone for the knuckle guards.  The texturizing around the body of the touch controller provides an enhanced grip and overall nice tactile feeling around your fingers.  The knuckle guard is soft and easily adjustable by pressing a button to tighten or loosen as needed.  For extra security and game versatility, there are also additional loops at the bottom which you can slide over your wrists and adjust similar to the stock one.  In my experience so far, I have not needed the bottom loops so removed them, but it is reassuring they exist if I need them.  These grips have a battery compartment built in that requires you remove the original ones completely.

“No more faulty battery compartments!”

Your touch controller slides into the grip and KIWI incorporates a built in compartment to secure the battery.  This is one of my favorite design elements as battery swaps are painless since they have even incorporated a pull tab for the battery.  The battery flap doesn’t snap into place, but rather wedges in securely and sits flush with the rest of the grip.  KIWI did not overlook the halos either.  This kit includes translucent optional halo covers made of silicone as well.  They slide right over the top of the circular ring and eliminated my paranoia of bumping them on things while playing.
